DEAD SEA, Jordan – 8th June 2019 – To mark Hilton’s 100th Anniversary milestone, Hilton Dead Sea Resort & Spa broke the Guinness World Record of cooking the largest falafel. The falafel weighed 101.5 KG and undertook a cooking period of an hour by chefs from the resort and local NGOs at the King Hussein Bin Talal Convention Centre managed by Hilton located adjacent to the resort on May 31, 2019.
As part of Hilton’s corporate social responsibility program, Travel with Purpose, and its goal of doubling the social impact in surrounding communities by the year 2030, Hilton Dead Sea Resort & Spa worked closely with several local NGOs to assist and prepare for the activity. 10 women from the Nubul Organization, a locally based NGO that assists women through hardship, were invited to assist the chefs with the falafel ingredients and cooking. A local start-up business, O2, documented the activity via social media platforms and audiovisual channels. As for the falafel, the Jordan Valley Foodbank overlooked the distribution to local communities and resort guests.
Following the record-breaking activity, Hilton Dead Sea Resort & Spa organized a celebratory Ramadan Iftar for 100 orphans from the Jordan Valley area. Inspectors from the Jordan Drug & Food Administration and judges from the Guinness World Records organization witnessed the activity as well as the resort’s Team Members.
“The partnership with members of our local community has evolved over time into one of trust and is one of the most rewarding investments we nurture in our business. We could think of no better way to celebrate the 100 year anniversary of Hilton than with our Dead Sea community and the whole celebration surrounding the breaking of this world record is dedicated to the hard work and commitment of our entire team”, said Bill Dewell, Director of Operations at Hilton Dead Sea Resort & Spa.
This is the second time Hilton Dead Sea Resort & Spa has broken a Guinness World Record, Team Members previously collaborated with neighboring hotels in the Dead Sea area to break the world record of creating the largest human floating image back in November 2014.
