Louvre Abu Dhabi Ranked Among the World’s Top 5 Museums

Hotelandrest.com, one of the UAE’s leading travel and tourism website has awarded the Louvre Abu Dhabi a spot in its Top 5 Museums of the world ranking. Its distinctive architecture, innovative design and the advanced technology incorporated into its engineering are among the highlights that led to the new museum’s international recognition and widespread success.

The website reports the Louvre Abu Dhabi’s signature dome that looms above it, is a standout feature that has won itself the epithet of being as impressive and as aesthetically pleasing as the iconic Eiffel Tower in Paris.

The building by itself is considered an ingenious, architectural wonder of the modern world, and has elevated Abu Dhabi’s reputation of being a home to a wide variety of architecturally distinctive buildings. The concept of the Louvre has been designed to resemble a massive silver dome that appears to float over the whole city when in fact weighing approximately 7,500 tons, the equivalent of the Eiffel Tower’s weight.

Its architect Jean Nouvel took inspiration from Arabian architecture before designing the dome that comprises of 7,850 stars, splattered in different in sizes and angles across 8 layers. As the sun traverses across the horizon, its rays filter through these layers to create palm tree-shaped shadows in the museum interiors. This inspiring effect that has earned itself the moniker “Ray of Light”, and is a curious phenomenon that attracts visitors from all over the world.

What makes the Louvre Abu Dhabi so monumental is the fact that it’s the first of its kind in the UAE to unite the civilizations and the heritage of mankind under one roof, making it a phenomenal addition to the country’s cultural landscape.
